Moto Guzzi introduced the V7 850 GT in 1972 with the task of replacing the V7 Special. The increase in displacement and the adoption of the 5-speed gearbox made it even more powerful and flexible. Sixties' style mild lines enhance the classic 90 ° V-twin and instinctively give us a feeling of strength and solidity. In a very short period this Guzzi 850 became the main European antagonist of the classic BMW models. Gears are on the right side with rocker control: you need to ride for a while to get used to this setting and forget the classic left-hand gear lever of modern days. Soon enough it'll become fun for you to engage and down-shift by simply moving your foot forward and backwards on the floorboard. An extremely flexible and generous engine, together with the excellent chassis, give the GT an unbelievable handling for a motorcycle of this size, as it can compete with other bikes apparently nimbler. Braking is effective, even if not very modular. It’s necessary to become familiar with the response of the brakes, which can be slow or sudden depending on your operation. However, the powerful engine brake of the large twin cylinder often makes unnecessary to use brakes. Riding position, with the footrests rather forward and the wide and relatively raised handlebars, is very comfortable. Anyone immediately feels at ease. All these features make the 850 GT a true class “grand tourer”, also thanks to the long and comfortable seat which makes it ideal for traveling 2 up.
