The Norton Commando was born in 1968. The aesthetics are extraordinary and the performance is thrilling. This version was soon called “Fastback” due to the innovative straight fiberglass tail, which gives it a touch of great sportiness and modernity. Engine, gearbox and swingarm, rigidly connected to each other by large steel plates, are bound to the frame by means of elastic rubber elements in the attempt, only partially achieved, to reduce vibrations. The classic but archaic solution of the separate gearbox adds appeal to the Commando's appearance. The kick start needs to be decisive and the gear pedal is located on the right side of the engine (first gear up), as it was for all the European bikes at that time. This requires a bit of concentration from the modern rider. The pleasure of riding immediately pays off, thanks to an exceptional handling and an unmistakable voice from mufflers: a real roar! The lightning acceleration of the Fastback, combined with the poor braking power of the front drum, requires the skilful use of the powerful engine braking to slow down. The seat, which cushions the tank laterally, is great for the rider but does not provide enough space for a passenger. For these features, only an experienced rider will be able to safely enjoy the incredible performance of this authentic queen of Britain. The beauty of riding the Commando will give you a truly unique sensation.
